The International Agri-Food Network (IAFN) is a global coalition of international trade associations operating within the agri-food sector. Established in 1996 during the World Food Summit, the IAFN functions as an informal network that facilitates liaison among its member organizations and actively engages with international bodies across the agri-food chain at a global level. Its primary purpose is to define and deliver the private sector's commitment to addressing global poverty and food security.
The IAFN serves as the backbone of the Private Sector Mechanism (PSM), an open platform that provides a permanent seat for private enterprises across the entire agri-food value chain — from farmers and input providers to cooperatives, processors, SMEs, and food companies. Through the PSM, the IAFN ensures private sector voices are represented within the United Nations' Committee on World Food Security (CFS), contributing evidence-based perspectives and practical solutions for building resilient food systems.
Positioned at the intersection of global policy and industry practice, the IAFN plays a critical role in shaping international food security dialogue. The network actively participates in high-level events such as the CFS plenary sessions, COP climate conferences, and FAO-led seminars, enabling its members to collaborate with governments, civil society, research institutions, and multilateral organizations to advance sustainable and equitable food systems worldwide.
